Hi, I'm Maria Antonieta,

I'm a kidlit illustrator and digital artist from Mexico who loves bringing stories to life with color, texture, and a touch of humor. I enjoy creating funny, expressive characters that spark emotion and imagination.

I graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, Facultad de Bellas Artes, in 2007 with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts, specializing in graphic design. I worked as a graphic designer for many years before switching to illustration — and I don’t regret it one bit. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made! Everything I learned in design still plays a role in how I approach composition, rhythm, and visual storytelling today.

Above all, I hope my illustrations bring a little joy to anyone who sees them — or at least, I try my best!

One of my favorite quotes is:

“The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.”

-Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

I was born in Mexico City but have lived in Querétaro most of my life. I speak some Japanese — I even passed the JLPT N4 (yay!).
Outside of illustration, I love spending time with my cat, reading good books, and watching movies — especially documentaries about history and art. I also enjoy early morning walks just to catch the sunrise, followed by a hot cup of tea at home.

I've had the pleasure of working with publishers like Beaming Books, Edelvives México, Santillana México, Richmond Publishing, and Charlesbridge Publishing.
